Privacy Policy
Vidi
Vidi lets you photograph real-world subjects — birds, flowers, buildings, food — and turns each find into a card in your Codex. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and the choices you have.
This policy applies to the Vidi mobile app and its supporting services ("Vidi", "we", "us"). The service is operated by Yang Lei. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the app.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account details — the email address and display name you use to sign in and to appear to groups you join.
- Photos you capture — images you take to identify a subject. These are uploaded to our service and to AI recognition providers to return an identification (see section 3).
- Your finds and notes — the cards saved to your Codex, collections, and any text you write on a find (for example, the words on the back of a postcard).
- Group activity — when you join a group via an invite, your display name and shared finds become visible to other members of that group.
Information collected automatically
- Approximate location — if you grant permission, the place a find was made may be attached to it (the "Where" on a card). Location is optional and you can decline or revoke it in your device settings.
- Device & diagnostic data — basic technical information such as device model, operating-system version, app version, and crash or error logs used to keep the app working.
- Usage data — limited information about how features are used, to improve the app.
2. How we use your information
- To identify the subjects in your photos and build the cards in your Codex.
- To create and maintain your account and your collection.
- To enable group features you choose to use.
- To diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and improve the app.
- To respond to your support requests.
3. Photos and AI identification
Identifying a subject is the core of Vidi. When you capture a photo, its image data is sent to our service and to one or more third-party AI image-recognition providers, which process the image to return a likely identification and the text shown on the card. We send only what is needed to perform the identification. We do not use your photos to advertise to you, and we do not sell them.
4. How information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as described here:
- AI recognition providers — process your photos to identify subjects, as described above.
- Hosting and infrastructure — providers that store data and run the service on our behalf.
- Other group members — your display name and shared finds, for groups you choose to join.
- Legal reasons — when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.
5. Data retention
We keep your account data and finds for as long as your account is active. Photos are retained as needed to provide and improve the identification service. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep it to meet legal obligations.
6. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live (including under the EU/EEA GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can:
- Manage camera, photos, and location permissions in your device settings.
- Edit your profile and finds inside the app.
- Request access to, or deletion of, your account and data by emailing us (see Support). We delete accounts on request.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children's privacy
Vidi is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.
9. International transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including by the service providers described above. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above, and where appropriate we will notify you in the app.
